When starting a new deployment of InterSystems IRIS, create a detailed description of your system’s requirements, including:

• Number of system users and their roles, such as developers and administrators
• Number of external systems that you will connect to
• Expected database sizes and data flow volume
• Server availability needs

Deployment specification

Next, develop a specification for your deployment, answering several key technical questions:

• How many instances will you need, and where will they be deployed?
• What databases and features does each instance need?
• To what extent will you automate deployments?
• How will you plan for future updates?
• What third-party software will you use in the installation?
• Will your implementation use sharding?
• Will your implementation use mirroring?
